Shakespeare In Farwell! The Michigan Shakespeare Festival was brought to Farwell's Jaime Performing Arts Center by a collaborative grant with Central Michigan University and Farwell High School. This educational outreach is a professional, full-company program, that brings performances to high schools in southern Michigan, northern Ohio, and northeast Indiana. The Touring Company consisted of 10 professional actors (all of whom have completed training programs at the university level) along with a technical director.
The Romeo & Juliet production was text-based and high-energy, designed specifically to bring the play that our students read while in high school, to life on the stage. It had a focus on the language and story of Shakespeare's play, set in a combination of 'period' style and modern sensibilities. The combat included classic Renaissance swords and daggers and the costumes combined early Renaissance shirts, boots, and long dresses.
After the performance, Farwell fine art students had the opportunity to join the cast and crew in a formal reception.
